Because life is always better when dancing: GANGNAM Style

20 Nov

Songs are always going to become hits when they are catchy and have a fun dance. I am sure I am not the only one that still remembers how to do the Macarena (though I’m too scared to ask the first years whether they do because that will definitely make us feel old). The current Macarena-like sensation, as we all know, comes to us from Korea in the form of the Gangnam style. It’s a fun, catchy dance but what I love more are the spin-offs. Here are 2: one that you’ll be familiar with from last night’s AMAs which was a mash-up of Gangnam style & MC Hammer (mash-up starts at 3:00 mark); the second one is from Eton College students, entitled Eton Style, in which they spoof their posh lifestyle (featuring their original works from Rousseau and Voltaire, and magnums of bubbly) at the famous school. I also love the upper-crust accent and the teacher pulling up in his Rolls to dance.

Here’s a little something to get you into the holiday spirit! Enjoy the amazing voice and then be sure to look up the inspiring story of this talented girl!

So? When will she be on Oprah? (Or OWN?)

Your morning inspiration :)

Good morning!

I first heard this song during my sorority’s convention. Even if you’re not a country fan, I know you’ll love the message. Every now and then I listen to this song and it brings me right back to what is important in life.

So, your assignment for today: live like you were dying, and start crossing things off your bucket list.

Your morning inspiration :)

Today, instead of my normal rah-rah – go get them piece, I decided to go for something dreamy, happy, and relaxing. A mid-week mini getaway.

I have fallen in love with this song (and Vanessa Paradis’ voice) and love its spirit. So to get you thinking of a weekend getaway to Rome, here is Nouvelle Vague with Vanessa Paradis performing a cover of Etienne Daho’s “Weekend à Rome”:

Enjoy! Have a wonderful day!

Pure HAPPINESS!

You have NO IDEA how happy I was when I found this on youtube! (I also believe that there is a cd version but this is so much better.) ENJOY!

Comment on part 1: I ❤ Dino! P.S. end of video, think something was up with Dean and the lady in the orchestra?

Comment on Part 3: LOVE the impersonations! Especially the dead-on impersonations of Ed Sullivan and James Cagney

Can’t find part 5! 😦

Can’t find part 7! 😦

Comment on Part 9: LOVE the last number! The perfect ending! starts at 6:35

Hope you enjoyed! And I hope you all now share my love for the Rat Pack!

Song of the Day: Long Live by Taylor Swift

9 Nov

I enjoy Taylor Swift’s songs besides the 16 year old “Dear Diary” immaturity/longing/unrealistic innocence of them. I respect that she knows what sells and that she definitely pulls me in despite her overall message.

There are a few good songs on her new album but my favourite is “Long Live”. This is a major celebration song and in my head I have it reworked for my hockey team’s inevitable Stanley Cup win this season (yes, a girl can dream!).

But apply it to your life! Long live you!

Enjoy! Have a great day!

Lyrics:
I say remember this moment
In the back of my mind
The time we stood with our shaking hands
The crowds in stands went wild
We were the kings and the queens
And they read off our names
The night you danced like you knew our lives
Would never be the same
You held your head like a hero
On a history book page
It was the end of a decade
But the start of an age

Long live the walls we crashed through
All the kingdom lights shined just for me and you
I was screaming, “long live all the magic we made”
And bring on all the pretenders
One day we will be remembered

I said remember this feeling
I passed the pictures around
Of all the years that we stood there on the sidelines
Wishing for right now
We are the kings and the queens
You traded your baseball cap for a crown
When they gave us our trophies
And we held them up for our town
And the cynics were outraged
Screaming, “this is absurd”
‘Cause for a moment a band of thieves in ripped up jeans got to rule the world

Long live the walls we crashed through
All the kingdom lights shined just for me and you
I was screaming, “long live all the magic we made”
And bring on all the pretenders
I’m not afraid

Long live all the mountains we moved
I had the time of my life
Fighting dragons with you
I was screaming, “long live the look on your face”
And bring on all the pretenders
One day we will be remembered

Hold on to spinning around
Confetti falls to the ground
May these memories break ???

And you take a moment
Promise me this:
That you’ll stand by me forever
But if G-d forbid fate should step in
And force us into a goodbye
If you have children someday
When they point to the pictures
Please tell them my name
Tell them how the crowds went wild
Tell them how I hope they shine

Long live the walls we crashed through
I had the time of my life with you

Long, long live the walls we crashed through
All the candlelight shined just for me and you
And I was screaming, “long live all the magic we made”
And bring on all the pretenders
I’m not afraid

Singing long live all the mountains we moved
I had the time of my life
Fighting dragons with you

And long, long live the look on your face
And bring on all the pretenders
One day we will be remembered

Song of the Day: Don’t Make Me Over by Dionne Warwick (as interpreted by Glee)

8 Nov

Song of the day today is one that I just heard this weekend but am in LOVE with! The original is great but (and yes, I know this is sacrilegious) I really prefer the Glee version. I haven’t seen this episode yet but let me know what you think.

I love the positive undertones of simply being accepted. A great message for a Monday!

Enjoy!
